Radon Testing & Mitigation

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can accumulate to dangerous levels in any building. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Iron Dog provides professional testing with continuous radon monitors and state-licensed mitigation to keep your home safe. These services are available across Summit and Portage counties.

What is Radon?

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that forms from the decay of uranium in soil and rock. It seeps into homes through foundation cracks, construction joints, wall gaps, and openings around pipes. Once inside, it becomes trapped — and at elevated levels, prolonged exposure significantly increases the risk of lung cancer.

There is no known safe level of radon. The EPA strongly recommends mitigation when indoor radon levels reach 4.0 pCi/L or higher. Many counties in Ohio fall into Zone 1 — the highest-risk category on the EPA’s Radon Zone Map.

Radon Testing

The only way to know your home’s radon levels is to test. Iron Dog uses Electronic Continuous Radon Monitors (CRM) to ensure accurate, reliable measurements. Testing is fast, non-invasive, and gives you the information you need to protect your family.

How It Works:

  • We place a continuous radon monitor in your home
  • The test runs for 48 hours
  • Results are available immediately upon completion
  • We email you the official results report shortly after

The Ohio Department of Health recommends testing every 3–5 years if you do not have a mitigation system, and every 1–2 years if you do.

Radon Mitigation

If your test results show radon levels at or above 4.0 pCi/L, mitigation is the solution. Iron Dog is a state-licensed radon mitigation company (License #RC230). Our license requires us to visit your home and design a mitigation system tailored specifically to your home’s construction and radon entry points — not a generic, off-the-shelf installation.

How Mitigation Works:

Our sub-slab depressurization systems capture radon gases from beneath your home and re-route them to the exterior above the roofline, where they safely disperse. The system runs continuously and quietly.

Our Guarantee:

Iron Dog guarantees to reduce your radon levels to 3.9 pCi/L or lower. A post-mitigation test is included in the price of every system — the test starts 24 hours after installation and runs for 48 hours to confirm the system is working.

Warranty:

  • 5-year manufacturer’s warranty on the radon fan
  • 1-year warranty on workmanship

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a radon test take, and when will I get results?

The test takes 48 hours using a continuous radon monitor. Results are known immediately upon completion and emailed to you shortly after.

The Ohio Department of Health recommends testing every 3–5 years without a mitigation system and every 1–2 years with one.

If your radon test results come back at 4.0 pCi/L or higher, the EPA strongly recommends mitigation. Iron Dog will walk you through your results and recommend next steps.

The system consists of a small pipe routed from beneath your foundation to the exterior of your home, typically installed in a basement or crawl space. A fan runs continuously but quietly. Most homeowners find the system unobtrusive.
